‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
Call Unto Me
Jeremiah 33:3
“Call Unto Me” is also one of my very first songs. I make a habit of reading through the Bible, starting simultaneously in Genesis, Psalms, and Matthew, and read forward until I am finished with the Bible and I begin again. Most of the time I have no idea what I am reading. However, I was praying and conversing with the Lord asking Him to reveal to me something from Jeremiah and this was the first passage in Jeremiah that ever spoke to me. Jeremiah 29:11 seems to have more fame, but this verse blew my mind, and it still does. We have no idea what the Lord will do for us, if we will just call to Him.

When my grandson was six and a student at Lighthouse Christian Schools I was commissioned to help him dress up as a Lighthouse for School Spirit Week.
We ended up making quite a cute costume and wrote verses on it with a fabric marker.
One of the verses was Psalm 119:105:
Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
I made up a little diddy of a song and marched around the house. That was great fun.
This week at our outreach, Psalm 119:105 is our memory verse, so I thought I’d get a simple demo recording of it, show you the original costume, and pass along a great memory.
You can hear the entire song by pressing play, below.
The intro, frankly, is my favorite part; oh, and the Beetle-esque end.
Be Strong and Brave
Joshua 1:9
While spending some alone time with God, musing over Joshua, the book we were about to begin in Women’s Bible study, I wrote this song. However, this song cut like a knife to my very soul and divided me in a radical way. My piano teacher, Ben Camp, had been telling me to show (play) my songs to Chris Falson (who was our worship leader at the time at Calvary Chapel San Juan Capistrano) every week that I came in for a lesson. I wouldn’t. I was afraid. I was afraid my songs were lame, afraid he would laugh, afraid I would be humiliated. I didn’t trust in the Lord. I wasn’t trusting in the gifts from the Lord—the songs that originated from HIM.
As I sung this song the Lord spoke to my heart: You are not strong. You are not brave. You are not courageous. Don’t be afraid of the giants in the land. You don’t have to be afraid of Chris. Play this song for him. I emailed him that Monday and told him I needed to play him this song on Thursday when he came to lead worship. I did. He listened and wanted to hear other songs; my debut CD “Come Away” was produced by him as a result. Praise the LORD. Even when we are unfaithful, He is faithful to us, because He cannot deny Himself (1 Timothy 2:13).

This song was birthed out of pondering the passage in Galatians which said that it pleased God to reveal His Son in me. IN me? Wow! This statement blew my mind. That night I wrote this song and shared it with the women’s Bible Study at Calvary Chapel Laguna Niguel. Christ IN us, is what makes us have HOPE. We just can’t ever comprehend the value of this precious gift!

My official disclaimer is that I wanted to record this; I wasn’t happy with the live version that I’ve previously posted. Posting it will make me accountable to change the guitar part (at LEAST) in Garage Band, eventually add more percussion and keyboard.
Here is a song I wrote for my friends Nicole & Warren when they were engaged based on this verse:
Ecclesiastes 3:11
He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
Although originally intended for their wedding, it’s not a true wedding song–didn’t fit in, I think it would be appropriate for any wedding or a retreat theme.
My official disclaimer is that I wanted to start this. Posting it will make me accountable to change the guitar part (at LEAST) in Garage Band, eventually add percussion of some sort, and fix my horrible keyboard playing.
It would be so much better with a male vocal–as a duet.
This morning I was invited to lead worship for the His Kids bible study put on by Teen Challenge in San Juan Capistrano.
There were about 30 kids from ages 8-15 in attendance–they were so responsive! (That’s always so rewarding for any worship leader). I was amazed at how quickly they picked up hand motions.
Here are the songs I chose:
1. Joy that Giggles
This is a song from Don Jackson/KIDS CRY OUT “HE is the ONE” CD (which is a must-have for any children’s worship leader).
2. More Precious Than Silver
3. Teach Me to walk
Again, from KIDS CRY OUT. I thought it reinforced the lesson of Jonah.
Micah taught on Jonah, had questions and answers, and we closed with a song.
4. Oh How I Love Jesus
Of course I taught them the song, then had boys vs. girls competition. I think they may have heard us at the Mission!
I hope to return next month. It was a great experience.
